My first venture into publishing was online. Like a Fat Gold Watch saw the light of electronic day on Amazon,  September 18th 2013 priced £2.59. It is still available.

The novel began as the outline for a play called The Mother. It was to be a companion piece to Strindbergs The Father. Later I turned some of the ideas into a novel and, after encouragement by more than one agent, I expanded the book into a trilogy called Song of the Mother. Later, I worked for several years shedding 150,00 precious words to create Like a Fat Gold Watch.

Most recently, that is during 2023, I have revisited the ebook and created a new printed version, going back to the original trilogy.

Song of the Mother is set in the 1980’s. It began life at the end of that decade when I was Writer in Residence at Cranleigh School in Surrey. The book is printed but yet to be published. I will be offering readings in Germany later this year. In forthcoming publications glance at the amazing cover.

The second of the ebooks, Cling, was published on Amazon November 18th 2013, priced £2.59. It is still available.

In a similar way to Like a Fat Gold Watch, I took the opportunity to revisit the book. In many ways, this book represented a break-through novel for me. It attracted serious interest from a major literary agency, went the rounds of the publishers, was highly praised by some very distinguished readers but not quite right, it seemed, but no one ever said why. With the help of my publisher and other canny readers, I welcomed the opportunity to revisit and completely rearrange the book. Apart from its structure, I have been able to tweak the prose and use the experience of two decades of further writing. The result of this endeavour is Of Love and Gravity.

The response to the new work has been very positive. I hope it has proved to be a fascinating and absorbing read. The book is set on the tiny Hebridean islands of Colonsay and Oronsay. To my great delight it started published life there. Christa and Kevin Byrne run a tiny bookshop on Colonsay. I  read from Of Love and Gravity at the Scalasaig bookshop on Saturday, May 12th 2018 . Despite its tiny population we sold a handsome number of books. The nights are long in the Hebrides.
